DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1  Devonport – Tamar Valley – Launceston

• Arrive in Launceston (airport links from major cities) by 1pm for an afternoon exploring Liffey Falls.
  Welcome Dinner at Grand Chancellor Hotel Launceston Overnight at Grand Chancellor, Launceston 

DAY 2: Launceston – St Helens – Bicheno – Coles Bay

• Depart Launceston and head towards the north east coast via Scottsdale, for our first Island waterfall, St. Columbu Falls
• Visit the coastal town of St Helens, then Binalong Bay and World Heritage Listed Bay of Fires for beach walk
• Explore the fishing village of Bicheno and close by Douglas Apsley National Park
• Overnight at Coles Bay  and photograph the Hazards in late afternoon light.

Day 3:  Freycinet National Park – Hobart

• Enjoy a dawn shoot at very picturesque Friendly Beaches followed by a hearty breakfast in Coles Bay.
• Climb the Hazards for a breath taking view of the now World famous Wineglass Bay.
• On the drive to Hobart call in for some delicious homemade ice-cream and fruit at Kate’s Berry Farm
• Arrive into Hobart late afternoon for photography of Constitution Dock with its spectacular Mt Wellington backdrop. Overnight at Mercure Hotel, Hobart.

Day 4:  Hobart – Tasman Peninsula – Hobart

• Begin the morning visiting Mt Wellington, towering over Hobart followed by breakfast at our hotel.
• All day drive down the Tasman Peninsular, see the Peninsula’s natural wonders – the Tessellated Pavement, The Blow Hole, Devil’s Kitchen and Tasman Arch (all at Eaglehawk Neck).’
• A visit to the ‘Tasmanian Devil Unzoo’ is not to be missed.  This privately owned park houses a wide range of open range mammals.
• Make the most of the Bronze Entry Pass to Port Arthur, including introductory tour, visitor guide, harbour cruise and access to the historic site and buildings
• Overnight at Mercure Hotel, Hobart

Day 5:  Hobart – Mt Field – Lake St Clair – Strahan

• Head out early for morning light at Mt Field National Park and the spectacular waterfall walk followed by an exploration of the upper reaches of Mt Field.
• Travel west to Lake St Clair for reflective lake photography passing through picturesque villages on the way.
• Drive with many roadside stops to Strahan for late afternoon wild beach, historical cottages and reflective photography around Strahan.
• Seafood Buffet Dinner.  Overnight Strahan Village, Strahan

Day 6:  Strahan  –  Tarkine  –  Cradle Mountain

• Today take a morning cruise on Gordon River deep into Tasmania’s most stunning wilderness telling stories of the areas colourful history. 
• After lunch in Strahan we drive along the rugged west coast to Corinna where we explore ancient rainforests and take a cruise down the glorious and very photogenic Piemen River.
• After the Tarkine wilderness we head for Cradle Mountain where we explore a range of adventure options based on weather conditions.
• Buffet Dinner and overnight at Cradle Mountain Chateau, Cradle Mountain

Day 7:  Cradle Mountain

• This ancient glacial area is one of Tasmania’s highlights. Enjoy the unique climate and spectacular scenery with two fabulous photo walks.
• Morning walk after an early breakfast Dove Lake Circuit Walk – A fairly easy grade makes this walk suitable for all ages and fitness levels, focusing on Cradle Mountain, temperate rainforests and sub alpine plant communities. See Cradle Mountain in all its glory and learn about the action of past glaciers on the landscape. Duration – 3 Hours Grade – Easy
• After lunch afternoon Crater Lake Walk – An excellent walk which takes you to the Crater Falls and a magical forest with pandini and sassafras trees. Discover the hidden glacial lake surrounded by 200 meter cliffs covered with fagus. Great views of Marion’s Lookout and Crater Lakes. Duration – 3 Hours Grade – Medium. An alternative to the afternoon walk stalking wombat and in pursuit of the wildlife of the region.
• Post production evening and overnight Cradle Mountain Chateau, Cradle Mountain.

Day 8:  Cradle Mountain – Stanley – Launceston

• After a tasty breakfast, we drive north to Burnie and in the afternoon to Stanley and the famous Nut, visiting Rocky Cape National Park & lighthouse.
  
• Return to Launceston along the north coast for flights home approx 1900 hrs
  
• Optionally extend your stay in Tasmania for flights or ferry next day.

PHOTO PROJECTS DEFINED – The purpose of photo projects is to ensure that during our time together you have experienced the techniques developed by Steve over many years of photography. During evenings and other opportunistic period we also delve into working with you on your post production interests.  Of course you are free to approach each area and allocated time freely and under whatever creative approach you might like to take.

What to bring

• Stout walking shoes, a hat and a personal water bottle are all essential.
• Any make and or model of camera can be used throughout.  For further suggestions see Steve’s various posts here.
• All photographic equipment from macro, through wide to long telephoto lenses will be applicable.  A light camera backpack will be useful for walks and a robust tripod and tripod head to suit your applications along with a cable release is essential.  A flash and head torch for night photography.  Bring your laptop with Lightroom cc2015, Photo Shop and Topaz Impressions loaded.  If you do not own this software download just before you depart at home on a 30 day trial.
