Aboriginal Art Safari – From Uluru to Alice Springs via remote
communities & MacDonnell Ranges
– includes Yuendumu,
Papunya, Haasts Bluff, Hermannsburg, Gosse Bluff, Kings Canyon, Uluru,
Alice Springs

Arrive the day prior tour
departure to enjoy Sunset at Uluru. Most flights to Ayer Rock (Uluru)
arrive around lunchtime. This gives you the afternoon for Uluru walks,
and time at the Anungu Aboriginal cultural centre. Arrive 2 days prior
to make the most of Kata Tjuta and longer walks at Uluru

Day 1 – Optional sunrise at Uluru before
breakfast. 10 am depart for Kings Canyon
, via
Curtin Springs and the Mt Connor lookout. We travel via vegetated
rolling sand hills, shady groves of Desert Oaks then Kings Creek and
the George Gill Range.

At Kings Canyon we have options of a

3 hour walk via the “Garden of
Eden”,
and the spectacular north and south walls or a shorter, easier
walk via the creek and valley floor.

Day
2 – Depart Kings Canyon via 4 WD Mereenie Loop track through this
spectacular Central Deserts landscape toward the Western McDonnell
Ranges and the Gardiner Range. Climb the Camels Hump and Katapata Pass
viewing Gosse Bluff comet crater. Visit the famous Lutheran Hermannsburg
Mission
and art school were Albert Namatjira first learnt to
paint –
more art treats here and learn of
the fascinating history of Hermannsburg and the early Aboriginal art
school. We return to
enter Gosse Bluff crater and
spend some quiet time here with a short walk to the lookout where the
dimensions of time, space and your place in the Universe can be seen in
a new perspective. We view the crater via sweeping views from Tyler’s
Pass to see one of the highest peaks in the region, Mt Sonder. Tonight,
nestle in to camp at Glen Helen resort after an optional swim, walks.
Enjoy the resort atmosphere tasty treats before dinner. BL

Day 3
– Today we h
ead to
Papunya
community art centre

and meet the artists
here. Learn about their special local techniques, which were the
origins of the desert arts movement. We view the nearby spectacular
Haasts Bluff
. Afternoon we travel by
local conservation areas to arrive at Newhaven Sanctuary to
learn from the caretakers about this special place. Overnight Newhaven
Sanctuary.

Day 4  – After a tour and nature walk at
Newhaven Sanctuary , we visit the world famous

Warlukurlangu artists at Yuendumu, and meet the
artists at work. You can buy their art directly from source. Time
permitting, we can visit Mt Allan or Mt Wedge art centres.  We then visit 
Tillmouth Wells
art here is often lesser known or independent artists from
Mt Allan, Papunya, Yuendumu
. Overnight Tillmouth Wells roadhouse
& campground. (Accommodation upgrades available here and some other
locations – best if prebooked)

Day 5 – Enjoy a leisurely
breakfast and continue browsing the many works while art shopping at
the Tillmouth Wells art store. Depart for Alice Springs to arrive
around noon to meet most flights or optional overnight in Alice
Springs.
