Tour itinerary – Kimberley via Home Valley Mitchell Falls, El Questro – Broome to Darwin (reverse option available)
Day 1 – Depart from Broome 830 am. We cross the mighty Fitzroy River and take a break at Willare by the river, then visit the famous Prison Boab tree, and then Derby highlights including the Derby wharf (30 ft tides!) on King Sound, the worlds longest cattle drinking trough, the new Mowanjum Art Centre (meet the artists, learn and buy from source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community. Depart from Derby for mystical Windjana Gorge and a short hop further to Tunnel Creek. We walk through this 600m cave river system to a special waterhole. After an optional swim, return to Windjana Gorge for a sunset gorge walk at this special creation “waterhole”. Meet the local freshwater crocodiles and exotic bird life (maybe even a rare Gouldian Finch) in this eerie, ancient seabed environment. Day 2 – Enjoy the early morning light in Windjana Gorge before we travel the Gibb River Road crossing the Lennard River, and through the Napier Range at Queen Victoria Pass. We traverse the King Leopold Ranges & Conservation Park (great views & spectacular lookouts) via Inglis Gap. Enjoy a walk & optional swim at spectacular Bell Gorge before overnight at Silent Grove campground.
Day 3 – Visit the fascinating Imitji Community store and Aboriginal artworks before the scenic drive through spectacular Kimberley ranges and cattle country. Time for a diversion now and a walk and swim at Galvans Gorge before arriving at Mt Barnett and for a Manning Gorge Falls walk to the waterfall and swim hole, or relax and swim at the picturesque waterhole by our campsite. Rock art nearby here too. BLD
Day 4 – We travel on via the Gibb River Rd, and enroute cross the Durack River and lunch at a peaceful waterhole. We check out Home Valley Station and another waterfall made famous by filming in Australia the Movie. Overnight enjoy the creature comforrts of the refurbished Home Valley Station on the banks of the Pentecost River after great views of the Cockburn Ranges. BLD
Day 5 – We cross the Kimberley widest, Pentecost River and travel adjacent the spectacular Cockburn Ranges. El Questros Emma Gorge is calling for a walk to the spectacular waterfall, and swimming if desired. Overnight at El Questro. BLD
Day 6 – This morning relax and soak up the healing waters of Zebedee hot springs, before exploring more of the El Questro treats including walks and waterholes, and an afternoon Chamberlain Gorge cruise, and later lookout views of El Questro and the Chamberlain River & Pentecost Rivers from Pigeon Lookout. Relax for a second night at El Questro. Dinner in restaurant . BL
Day 7 – After a tasty breakfast we travel on to Wyndham, Western Australia’s most northerly town and awe at the landscape from Five Rivers Lookout, with views over the spectacular river systems and wetland flood plains feeding Cambridge Gulf. We visit the RAMSAR wetlands of Parry’s Lagoon, a haven for wetland birds from afar. The bird life at Parry Lagoon is some of the richest in the Kimberley, with Brolgas, Jabiru, Whistling Ducks, Egrets, waders, and many more. Our day completes in Kununurra and dinner at a local restaurant (own expense). Overnight Kununurra. BLD
Day 8 – A free day to enjoy the holiday pace of Kununurra with options including swimming, lake side walking, Aboriginal Art Galleries, Zebra Rock, Pink Diamonds, Sandalwood factory or Rum Distillery.
Two Major Options available this day include –
- Flight to, 4WD and walks in Bungle Bungles over Lake Argyle, with 4WD ground tour and dome walks at Picanninny Creek and Cathedral Gorge.
- Flight to Mitchell Falls and Kimberley west coast – Includes landing at Mitchell Plateau Airfield, fly over Ord River then over the Lower Ord wetlands to Kalumburu, King Edward River, the historic WWII Truscott Airfield, Admiralty Gulf, and the pearl farms of Vansittart Bay, Mitchell River and picturesque Mitchell Falls. the Cockburn Ranges, Home Valley and El Questro stations. plus the vast Ord Irrigation Area, and the Diversion Dam on the Ord River are highlighted with our arrival back in Kununurra.
Day 9 – Enjoy a tasty breakfast before we transfer you for your 9 am Darwin departure via Greyhound coach for the highway drive via spectacular scenery of Timber Creek, Victoria River, Katherine to arrive Darwin approximately 10:30 pm (9 pm WA time as time zone is crossed). Tour ends Darwin or Broome if in reverse.
After tour Options –
A free day to celebrate your journey. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and the many sights or activities Darwin has to offer. Options include a trip to Kakadu or Litchfield National Parks, or simply shop or relax in Darwin’s balmy climate. Home Flights depart from Darwin or consider travelling with us to Alice Springs via Kakadu, Katherine Gorge, Lost City & Devils Marbles or to Cairns via Gulf Savannah Way

Flight to, 4WD and walks in Bungle Bungles over Lake Argyle, with 4WD ground tour and dome walks at Picanninny Creek and Cathedral Gorge. Flight departs 830am to experience Kununurra, ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’ and surroundings by air with a morning scenic flight over the Ord Irrigation area, mighty Ord River Scheme and the enormous man made Lake Argyle before arriving at the Bungle Bungle where you transfer to an air-conditioned 4WD. On your overland travels to Cathedral Gorge learn of the Bungles heritage and hear some of local nature’s hidden secrets. Be amazed on your walk into Cathedral Gorge, where you will be surrounded by the Beehive Domes for which the park is so famous. Arrival into the gorge displays a magnificent amphitheatre designed by nature at its best. Relax in this shaded area and enjoy a memorable picnic lunch before returning on your walk to rejoin the 4WD. Travel to the Bungle Bungle Bush Camp for afternoon tea then rejoin the aircraft to complete your afternoon scenic flight over the ancient Ragged Ranges and the Argyle Diamond Mine. Arriving back in Kununurra approx. 500 pm. Day includes easy to moderate 3 km walk into Cathedral Gorge via the Beehive Domes. Cost $ 720
Flight to Mitchell Falls and Kimberley west coast – Included is a landing at Mitchell Plateau Airfield for an outback morning tea. Departing Kununurra along the Ord River towards House Roof Hill, the backdrop for the movie “Australia”, then over the Lower Ord wetlands and the old port of Wyndham before tracking over the rugged interior towards WA’s most remote township of Kalumburu. We overfly the King Edward River, the historic WWII Truscott Airfield, Admiralty Gulf, and the pearl farms of Vansittart Bay. Leaving this isolated and pristine coast, our next destination is the Mitchell River and the picturesque Mitchell Falls. Next we land at the Mitchell Plateau airfield, another WWII remnant, for an outback morning tea. Dotted with palm trees, this unique location offers an opportunity to stretch your legs and closely survey the unique flora of this bauxite rich plateau. En route back to Kununurra we experience the panoramic beauty of the Cockburn Ranges, and the popular Home Valley and El Questro stations at their base. The vast Ord Irrigation Area, and the Diversion Dam on the Ord River are highlighted with our arrival back in Kununurra. Cost $725
